Kashi Yatra is one of those interesting and important rituals that find its way in all the South Indian Hindu Wedding Ceremonies: Telugu (Kamma weddings), Brahmins of Tamil Nadu Karnataka and some communities in Kerala too.

It’s a sort of ritual that is enacted by the groom and bride families after Mangala Snanam or Snatakam.

- To marry a girl and become a Gruhastha (Family man).
Or
- Sacrifice the world pleasures in pursuit of the ascetic life.
The groom now proclaims his wish to acquire more knowledge and become an ascetic and starts off with his set-up: Topi, an umbrella, slippers and a bamboo stick in hand, starts off on Kashi Yatra (literally).Kashi, because it is considered as the very holy place and is the place for a Hindu to find peace.
